Frequently Asked Questions:


1. How do I become a volunteer at the Women’s Resource Center?

  • Express interest! Fill out our Volunteer Interest Form or contact our volunteer coordinator
  • Meet with our volunteer coordinator to discuss your interests, talents and commitment level
  • Attend our volunteer orientation  - one is scheduled every second Tuesday of the month
  • Jump in! After orientation you’re ready to get your feet wet in helping out in our organization
  • Some volunteer positions require additional training after you are more comfortable and have a better understanding of the organization and our work. Trainings will be offered on an as needed basis for these positions


2. How old do I have to be to volunteer?

  • Due to the nature of our work a volunteer must be at least 16 years old to volunteer in our office and at least 18 years old to participate in events which involve client and community contact. There are opportunities for younger volunteers at many of our special events. Please contact the volunteer coordinator to discuss how you can involve your child


3. What hours are available to volunteer?

  • The Women’s Resource Center is open from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed from 12:00 – 1:00 for lunch
  • We are closed on weekends and all major holidays
  • Special event and project volunteer hours will vary


4. Where are you located?

  • The Women’s Resource Center is located in the United Way Community Services Building at:
    424 Pine Street, Suite 201
    Fort Collins
    , CO 80524
  • To get to the Women’s Resource Center from central Fort Collins, take College Avenue North and turn right on Willow Street. Continue on Willow and turn left onto Pine Street (Right in between Interstate Batteries and Bas Bleu Theatre). The United Way Community Services Building is at the end of the road. Park anywhere in the parking lot, enter the building, once inside turn left, go up the stairs, the Women’s Resource Center is the second door on the left, suite 201.


5. What types of ongoing volunteer positions are available?

  • Education & Outreach - talking to women about health issues at health fairs or in their homes and going to medical or dental appointments with women who need a little extra support
  • Special events – participate in event committees or on the day of the event
  • Administrative – helping in our office with filing, making client bags, etc.
  • Board of Directors

6. What do I have to wear when I come to volunteer?

  • We are a professional nonprofit organization and try to represent ourselves well within our community. Please dress appropriately for the volunteer position at which you are working


7. Can I do community service hours required by school, church or court at the Women’s Resource Center?

  • Yes. We do accept short term volunteer commitments for those needing to complete community service hours required by the court, school, church, etc. These volunteers are limited to helping with administrative duties (such as filing, client surveys, mailings, making goodie bags, etc.) and at special events due to the training time required for other positions.


8. Can I bring my group to volunteer?

  • We have volunteer opportunities for groups to help with mailings, work at special events and during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, National Women’s Health Week, etc.  Please contact the volunteer coordinator to discuss upcoming events and group opportunities.
  • We also participate in many community volunteer projects such as Make a Difference Day. Please contact the volunteer coordinator to discuss upcoming opportunities.
