  BE HEALTHIER—
IT’S NOT AS HARD AS YOU THINK!

The Women’s Resource Center joins the Office on Women’s Health in suggesting these simple steps to better health:

Eat healthier.  It doesn’t have to be more expensive or more time-consuming.  A little planning will make it easy.  Add vitamins to your diet.  Drink lots of water.  It’s free!

Don’t use tobacco.  Oh, for heaven’s sake!  We know this.  Tobacco is the only product that kills one out of three people who use it.  Stop the madness.  Please call 1-800-QUITNOW if you need help quitting.

Get some exercise.  If 20 to 30 minutes a day seems too daunting, just challenge yourself to use the stairs, tighten your abs while you’re driving, do squats or sit-ups during commercials.  Try it every day for just 3 weeks.  You will see a difference!

Keep up with your check-ups and recommended screenings.  Mammogram, PAP test, colonoscopy, bone density; and don’t forget your teeth!!

Take care of your mental health.  If you need help, ask for it.  If you need to take a break, do it.  Enjoy some silence.  Just sit and breathe.  You really can’t avoid stress.  We all have it, always will.  But you can manage your stress by managing your energy.  It’s not infinite, so use it wisely.

Get enough sleep.  You need 3 to 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep to complete one REM cycle.  That’s the “good” sleep.  Two REM cycles are recommended every night.  Sounds harder than dieting, right?   How about “Get enough sleep 3 times a week”?  We can do that, can’t we?

We know that there are many barriers to better health—some we have control over and some we don’t.  We also believe that money should not be one of them.  If you need tobacco cessation resources, access low-cost breast, reproductive or oral health care, or just want to know more about being healthy, call us at 970.484.1902
